Rated Ages

Obtain Vital Information for your MSA

What is a Rated Age?

Using a variety of factors, underwriters at a life insurance company assign a rated age that reflects an individual’s predicted life expectancy. Age ratings are provided by an independent underwriter approved by CMS, or qualified life insurance companies, and are based on the individual facts of any given case. MEDVAL facilitates this process by providing relevant, supporting medical documentation to the underwriter.

How Can Rated Ages Impact MSAs?

CMS considers a reduction in life expectancy when determining the amount to include in a Medicare Set-Aside. Typically, CMS looks at the highest age rating issued by the life insurance companies issuing age ratings, which can serve to reduce the amount of the MSA.
